Common Ground Cafe Biz Card
The Common Ground Cafe is owned and run by The Community, a spiritual community based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. We live according to the First Church in Acts II and IV-living in The Community and taking care of one another. The Community has existed since the late 1960s. We have two houses with 35 people in Dorchester. (www.twelvetribes.org) We used to live at 52 Alban St., called "The Sus House" and had a candleshop and woodshop in the basement. We also made musical instruments. We first came to Dorchester because we used to be mostly in Vermont. We had a community in France that didn't have a house so we sent people to Dorchester to work to raise money to build a house in Sus, France. All the money went to France and also paid for a Dorchester house. People ask why the Cafe is in Dorchester. We think of it as an oasis and a refuge. The Community currently has two houses at 92 Melville and 69 Richmond.

This photo was taken in Alex's room on Adams St. in Dorchester. Alex is wearing a Cork soccer (football) jersey. Alex came to Dorchester from Cork, Ireland in 1998 at age 6. At first it was scary - I wasn't sure if I'd ever go back home to Ireland. The biggest difference being in the U.S. is not having my family around. The best part is meeting new friends. If you come at an early age, you can get more used to it. When people ask me, I say that I am from Cork, Ireland.

They were a multi-racial team from the Franklin Field area. They went on to be undefeated. In 1966, Reeves' first year coaching, they went to Warwick, RI to play an exhibition game in which they were certain to lose. The team was one year older, 10 lbs heavier and undefeated for two years. We lived in 3-deckers, but there were 7-deckers in the middle and the elevators never worked. There were deaths from people falling down the elevator shafts. Anna looked pretty at the wedding. We didn't have a car so it was nice seeing people driving into the projects - the land of concrete. At the Administrative Building, they'd line up for dental exams and get jabbed with needles. Columbia Point was the biggest project and opened in 1953. We had to hike through the swampy mud to go to the grocery store which was near the current Boston Globe.
